Holographic art display: creating awareness about endangered species through art.

P1070429.JPG

For this project, we were asked to combine technology and physical products in order to create an enhanced experience.

For this I used Arduino and Processing combined to create an art display that would create awareness towards endangered species and the results of the sixth mass extinction we are experiencing in our current climate.

A hologram is projected above the plinth representing different endangered animals whilst a speaker plays the soothing sound of nature from their environment. Ultrasonic sensors are placed around the plinth to detect the spectators movement and their distance from the plinth. As a spectator approaches to observe the hologram up close, it will dim as they get closer. Simultaneously, the sounds emitted will become louder and more obnoxious until the spectator reaches a predetermined distance, e.g 50cm. At this point the hologram will disappear and the calming yet loud sound of nature will be replaced with that of habitat destruction.

The spectator will then be left with a sense of responsibility and newfound awareness towards these vanishing species, rapidly diminishing due to human interactions and consumption.
